حماية المستهلك تطالب بسحب باور بانك لعيوب في البطارية تؤدي للاشتعال

The Consumer Protection Agency is urgently advising all users of Belkin power banks to immediately cease usage. Consumers are urged to disconnect the device from any power source and store it in a safe, dry location, away from flammable materials or other electronic devices. They must avoid disposing of it in regular trash or attempting to recycle it, to prioritize safety and prevent potential risks.

Belkin, in collaboration with its authorized distributor in Egypt, Mobilecom, has announced a recall of several power bank models after identifying a manufacturing defect in the lithium-ion battery. This defect poses a severe overheating risk, leading to a potential fire hazard, which directly threatens user safety. The company’s proactive stance reflects a dedicated commitment to quality standards and compliance with consumer protection laws.

The defect lies specifically in the lithium-ion cell component of the portable charger. A manufacturing issue has caused abnormal temperature increases, heightening the risk of combustion or melting during operation. Belkin emphasized the need for immediate action to protect consumers and mitigate any potential dangers associated with this defect.

Mobilecom has been promptly instructed to handle the situation. Coordination efforts are underway to ensure all legal procedures are followed, starting with the removal of the affected product from the Egyptian market. Retailers have been notified to halt sales immediately. Additionally, customers can replace the product or receive a full refund without incurring any costs or needing a receipt, safeguarding consumer rights and facilitating the return process.

The recalled products are identified as follows:
– BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K
– Models BPB002btBK and BPB002btWH, which contain lithium-ion batteries.

The Consumer Protection Agency is particularly urging those who purchased these products to stop using them at once and to contact Mobilecom at 01279382376 or via the Belkin website (http://www.belkin.com/BPB002recall) for product return and refunds, without any additional charges. This initiative aims to ensure user safety and shield consumers from potential hazards.

Ibrahim al-Sajini, the head of the Consumer Protection Agency, confirmed that these measures reflect the organization’s vigilant role in safeguarding public safety. Following a formal notification from Belkin about the risks associated with the product, necessary precautionary actions were taken. This included the company’s prompt withdrawal of the product from the market and detailed reporting to the Consumer Protection Agency to manage the situation effectively.

The agency continues to monitor the recall diligently, ensuring all necessary actions are taken to protect consumer rights and safety. This initiative aligns with the provisions of Law No. 181 of 2018, particularly concerning the safety and quality of goods and services in the Egyptian market. Suppliers are mandated to report any potential hazards related to their products and to take immediate corrective actions upon discovery of defects.

Furthermore, the Consumer Protection Agency remains committed to closely coordinating with Mobilecom and Belkin to review all technical and organizational measures related to the product recall. They are dedicated to ensuring the removal process adheres to the highest safety standards, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future and confirming the company’s full compliance with established specifications and safety requirements.
