The war in the Gaza Strip continues to claim more victims, as Israeli airstrikes and military operations persist across the territory. This comes amidst diplomatic efforts and talks aimed at solidifying the ceasefire and transitioning to a new phase of de-escalation.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced today, Thursday, July 9, that the death toll since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, has risen to 73,118, with 173,615 wounded, as Israeli military operations continue throughout the Strip.
In its daily statistical report, the Ministry stated that Gaza hospitals received eight bodies and 17 wounded individuals in the past 24 hours. It noted that a number of victims remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, while ambulance and civil defense teams face difficulties reaching them due to the ongoing bombardment and the prevailing conditions on the ground.
The ministry added that the death toll since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on October 11 has reached 1,092, with 3,507 injuries, in addition to the recovery of 799 bodies during the same period.
On the humanitarian front, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced a new operation to evacuate patients and the wounded from the Gaza Strip in coordination with the World Health Organization via the Rafah crossing. The operation involved transferring 36 patients and 57 companions to complete their treatment outside the Strip, as part of efforts to alleviate the pressure on the health sector, which is facing increasing challenges.
These developments on the ground coincide with the resumption of a new round of negotiations in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the participation of mediators and relevant parties, to discuss consolidating the ceasefire and moving to the next phase of the agreement. There are hopes that the talks will contribute to reducing escalation and improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is facing deteriorating living and health conditions as a result of the ongoing war.
