Muscat: Oman national taekwondo athlete Nibras al Touqi added another major achievement to his growing international record after claiming the silver medal in the senior men’s under-54 kg category at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026 in Jakarta.Representing the Sultanate of Oman and Falcon Taekwondo Club, Al Touqi delivered a strong and consistent campaign at the World Taekwondo G2 event, which brought together more than 500 competitors from 36 countries at the Tennis Indoor Senayan.Al Touqi began his campaign in the round of 64 and registered five consecutive victories against opponents from different countries to secure his place in the final. His composed performances throughout the competition reflected his growing experience and ability to compete under pressure against a strong international field.The silver medal further underlines Al Touqi’s progress in the men’s under-54kg division and strengthens his standing as one of Oman’s leading emerging taekwondo athletes.The achievement was the result of coordinated efforts involving the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth’s promising athletes development programme, the Oman Olympic Committee’s Olympic athlete preparation and qualification programme, and the continuous technical work undertaken by Falcon Taekwondo Club. Coach Salim al Abri accompanied Al Touqi throughout the championship and played an important role in preparing him for each contest. His technical guidance and management of the bouts helped the Omani athlete maintain his momentum through five demanding rounds before reaching the final.Falcon Taekwondo Club also acknowledged the sustained support provided by the athlete’s father, Mohammed al Touqi, throughout the different stages of his preparation and participation. The club highlighted the importance of family support in helping young athletes remain focused and committed while competing at the highest levels.Ahmed bin Rashid al Asmi, chairman and head coach of Falcon Taekwondo Club, expressed pride in the result, describing the silver medal as the outcome of collective effort, long-term planning and consistent training.Al Asimi said the club would continue working to develop athletes capable of representing the Sultanate of Oman with distinction at regional, continental and international competitions. He also thanked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oman Olympic Committee and all those who contributed to supporting Al Touqi during his preparations.The medal adds to Al Touqi’s growing international profile and provides valuable ranking momentum as he continues to compete in major world taekwondo events.It also reinforces Falcon Taekwondo Club’s contribution to developing national talent and reflects the steady progress of taekwondo in Oman, with the country’s athletes securing an increasingly visible presence on regional and international podiums.
