في فاجعة جديدة تعكس الجانب المظلم لتجارة الأحجار الكريمة، تحوّل حجر «اليشم» (الجاد) الذي يعتقد الآسيويون أنه يجلب الحظ، إلى لعنة حصدت أرواح العمال البسطاء. فقد لقى 5 أشخاص حتفهم واعُتبر نحو 15 آخرين في عداد المفقودين إثر انهيار مرعب لمنجم مهجور في بورما (ميانمار)، عقب هطول أمطار موسمية غزيرة تسببت في زعزعة استقرار التربة.
وأفادت وسائل الإعلام الرسمية في بورما بأن الكارثة وقعت في ولاية كاشين شمالي البلاد، عندما انهارت فجأة كومة ضخمة من الأنقاض والمخلفات الصخرية لتطمر تحتها نحو 20 شخصاً من المنقبين المستقلين (الباحثين عن الفتات).
وأشارت التقارير إلى انتشال 5 جثث حتى الآن، في حين تواصل فرق الإنقاذ جهودها المضنية وسط الوحل والأنقاض بحثاً عن 15 مفقوداً يواجهون حتفهم تحت الأرض، وسط تضاؤل الآمال في العثور على ناجين.
ثراء فاحش يحرسه الموت
تعتبر ولاية كاشين المنهكة شمالي بورما المورد الأساسي والمنبع الأكبر في العالم لاحتياطيات حجر «اليشم» الكريم، الذي يلقى رواجاً هائلاً وأسعاراً فلكية خاصة في الصين المجاورة. وتتكرر هذه المآسي سنوياً بسبب:
غياب الرقابة: يفتقر قطاع التعدين الضخم في بورما إلى أدنى معايير السلامة والتنظيم.
البحث عن لقمة العيش: يقوم السكان المحليون الفقراء بالمخاطرة بحياتهم لتنخيل أكوام الأنقاض المتروكة، بحثاً عن قطع صغيرة أُغفلت أثناء التعدين الرسمي لبيعها وسد رمق جوعهم.
الأمطار الموسمية: تشكل الأمطار الغزيرة عامل هدم أساسي، إذ تؤدي لسيولة التربة والانهيارات الطينية المفاجئة.
ما يزيد المشهد تعقيداً هو الواقع السياسي المرير، إذ تعيش بورما حرباً أهلية طاحنة منذ الانقلاب العسكري عام 2021 الذي أطاح بالحكومة المدنية. وتتحول هذه المناجم الثمينة إلى ساحات حرب مشتعلة، إذ تسيطر فصائل مسلحة على العديد منها، وتستغل عائدات «اليشم» الضخمة لتمويل عملياتها العسكرية وشراء السلاح.
يذكر أن البلدة التي شهدت الحادثة الدموية كانت قبل أيام قليلة مسرحاً لمعارك ضارية وعنيفة بين الجيش النظامي وقوات المعارضة الساعية للسيطرة على كنز اليشم، ليدفع المدنيون والمنقبون الفقراء دائماً الثمن الأكبر بين مطرقة الحرب وسندان الطبيعة القاسية.

Five people have died, and around 15 others are considered missing following a terrifying collapse of an abandoned mine in Burma (Myanmar), after heavy seasonal rains destabilized the soil.
Official media in Burma reported that the disaster occurred in Kachin State in the north of the country when a massive pile of debris and rock waste suddenly collapsed, burying about 20 independent miners (those searching for scraps) beneath it.
Reports indicated that 5 bodies have been recovered so far, while rescue teams continue their arduous efforts amid mud and rubble in search of 15 missing individuals who face death underground, with hopes of finding survivors dwindling.
Extravagant Wealth Guarded by Death
Kachin State, exhausted in northern Burma, is considered the primary source and the largest reservoir in the world for jade reserves, which enjoys immense popularity and astronomical prices, especially in neighboring China. These tragedies recur annually due to:
Lack of Oversight: The massive mining sector in Burma lacks the most basic safety and regulatory standards.
Searching for a Livelihood: Poor local residents risk their lives to sift through abandoned piles of debris, searching for small pieces overlooked during official mining to sell and stave off their hunger.
Seasonal Rains: Heavy rains are a primary destructive factor, leading to soil liquefaction and sudden landslides.
What complicates the scene further is the bitter political reality, as Burma has been experiencing a brutal civil war since the military coup in 2021 that ousted the civilian government. These precious mines have turned into raging battlefields, with armed factions controlling many of them, exploiting the massive revenues from jade to fund their military operations and purchase weapons.
It is noteworthy that the town where the bloody incident occurred was just a few days ago the scene of fierce and violent battles between the regular army and opposition forces seeking to control the jade treasure, with civilians and poor miners always paying the highest price between the hammer of war and the anvil of harsh nature.
