وفي الشوط الثاني ألغى الحكم هدفًا لمصطفى زيكو بداعي وجود مخالفة، قبل أن يعود اللاعب نفسه ويضيف الهدف الثاني في الدقيقة 67 بعد هجمة مرتدة رائعة بدأت من محمد صلاح وانتهت بتسديدة ناجحة في الشباك.
لكن الأرجنتين كثفت ضغطها، فقلص كريستيان روميرو الفارق في الدقيقة 79، ثم أدرك ميسي التعادل بعدها بخمس دقائق، قبل أن يخطف إنزو فرنانديز هدف الفوز في الوقت بدل الضائع، ليمنح منتخب بلاده بطاقة التأهل إلى ربع النهائي، بينما غادر المنتخب المصري البطولة بعدما قدم واحدة من أفضل مبارياته رغم النهاية المؤلمة.

However, Argentina intensified its pressure, with Cristian Romero reducing the deficit in the 79th minute, then Messi equalized five minutes later, before Enzo Fernandez snatched the winning goal in stoppage time, granting his team a ticket to the quarter-finals, while the Egyptian team exited the tournament after delivering one of their best performances despite the painful ending.
